Matt Hollows

Chartered Physiotherapist, MCSP, HPC Registered, AACP, KCMT.

I specialise in the management and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries (including sports related injury). I particularly enjoy the diversity of meeting and treating people of all ages and interests in order to achieve their goals.

Background and experience

From as far back as I can remember I have always been passionate about sport and physical activity, particularly athletics which I have competed in up to national level in my teens. This along with my interest in science based subjects naturally resulted in me pursuing a Degree in Sports Science. Aspects of the course that particularly interested me included Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology and the Physiology of Ageing and Disease. I was involved in collaborative research with the National Centre of Sports Injury Surgery, Oswestry, relating to knee injury rehabilitation which later got published within a peer reviewed scientific research journal.

Whilst studying Sports Science it became clear to me that Physiotherapy was my true vocation. It seemed the ideal way to combine my interests in physical activity and science with a healthcare profession that works with people to identify and maximise their ability to move and function.

After six years of study, I worked within the National Health Service for four years. I gained valuable general Physiotherapy experience in a wide variety of clinical specialities including, Neurological Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic and General Surgery, Intensive Care, Medicine and Musculoskeletal Outpatient Clinics.

In 2008 I gained employment as a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist within the largest independent provider of musculoskeletal healthcare services within the UK. This specialisation allowed me to register for a Masters Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, which I am now in the final stage of completing. I continue in this role when not based at the Lakeland and Lunesdale Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic.
